OA Unit Election Information

The Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society, provides units with an opportunity to recognize their most dedicated Scouts, those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Such recognition is awarded with the hope that it inspires other Scouts within the unit to conduct themselves in such a manner as to warrant similar recognition.

As a chartered organization of the Boy Scouts of America, the Order of the Arrow’s principle purposes are to develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit, to promote Scout camping, and to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others. The Order of the Arrow is a program designed to strengthen your unit’s leadership, not remove them from your program.

The only way a Scout can become a member of the Order of the Arrow is to be elected by his peers during a unit election. Once every charter year, a Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team has the opportunity to schedule a election. To be eligible for election, a Scout must meet the following requirements:

To schedule a unit election, please fill out and mail in the Youth Election Form at least two weeks prior to the date your unit wishes to hold an election. As soon as the form is received a representative from the Unit Elections Committee will contact your unit’s Scoutmaster to review the youth election criteria and confirm the unit’s election date.

If you have any questions please contact Matthew Kamat, the Unit Elections Adviser, at (727) 808-6800 or kamat59@hotmail.com. We look forward to the opportunity to recognize your unit’s most dedicated Scouts through induction into the Order of the Arrow.
